Parson's Flat Shiraz Cabernet 2015
Rated by WharfRat on November 13, 2017

Rating 22

Disappointing, hyper-ripe, very grapey and mass-produced tasting. Nothing distinguishing that even let you know it had shiraz or cab in it.

Comments (4)

Vidal Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Red Hills 2014
Rated by WharfRat on November 11, 2017

Rating 33+

Too much oak/vanilla for me. Decent balance and finish.

Nine Stones Shiraz Hilltops 2014
Rated by WharfRat on November 4, 2017

Rating 22+

Thin and uninspiring. Recently tried their 2012 Barossa Shiraz and it was decent. This wasn't.

Raven Park Shiraz Victoria 2016
Rated by WharfRat on August 23, 2017

Rating 33

PnP - straight up over-ripe fruit with that fake grape smell. With air, filled out into a big forward Aussie Shiraz with licorice and fruit and a raspberry jam finish. Less than 3 if you don't like the style, and more if you do. It grew on me with air.

Ortas Cave de Rasteau Rasteau Tradition 2015
Rated by WharfRat on August 14, 2017

Rating 33+

This is all about the bright red fruit from the grenache, with a streak of minerality and some earthiness in the mix. 70% G, 20% S and 10% M. Simple, but it works.

Zotovich Estate Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills 2013
Rated by WharfRat on August 7, 2017

Rating 44-

Nice red fruit, a touch of spice, and mild oak with zippy acidity. Nice Pinot for $20.

Nottingham Cellars 1846 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Rated by WharfRat on May 27, 2017

Rating 44

Solid cab and good value. Lots of fruit, long finish and not over-oaked.

Domaine Fond Croze Cotes du Rhone Villages Les Roches 2014
Rated by WharfRat on April 29, 2017

Rating 44

Nice syrah. Vibrant fruit, nice meaty nose, and fine tannins that give some grip. On the new world side.

Comments (0)

Bonpas Cotes du Rhone Reserve de Bonpas 2015
Rated by WharfRat on April 8, 2017

Rating 22+

Inexpensive GSM blend. A bit of red fruit from the grenache and a touch of earth, with little contribution from the S&M. Not offensive, but not appealing either.

Les Vignobles Foncalieu Coteaux d'Enserune Les Illustres 2012
Rated by WharfRat on March 5, 2017

Rating 22

A bit tart at times, and astringent. Some off aromas/flavors, although the finish was decent. Wouldn't repurchase at half the price, or even a third.

Comments (0)

Hogue Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Columbia Valley 2012
Rated by WharfRat on February 25, 2017

Rating 44

Decent fruit, good balance, and grippy tannins. Restrained use of oak compared to a lot of WA wines.

Comments (0)

Cesarini Sartori Signae Benozzo Rosso Umbria 2013
Rated by WharfRat on February 19, 2017

Rating 44

By no means a Sagrantino expert, but this has considerably more fruit and acidity than others I've tried. A touch smoky with spice and fruit that work as a whole. Seemed to get more tannic with air.

Comments (0)

Domaine des Aires Hautes Minervois Tradition 2014
Rated by WharfRat on January 25, 2017

Rating 33+

Very interesting, almost like a fruity and somewhat floral beaujolais on PnP even though it's saturated dark purple. Develops into more brooding and dark red. Quite tannic, and has potential to be better once the tannins calm down a bit. Great value at $11.

Arnoux et Fils Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu Eglise du Midi 2014
Rated by WharfRat on January 9, 2017

Rating 33

Copious bright red fruit and some earthiness, balances out with air. On the modern side. As J2K points out, tastes and looks much better than the price tag.

Comments (0)

DeLille Cellars D2 Red Columbia Valley 2013
Rated by WharfRat on January 9, 2017

Rating 44

Solid Bdx blend, but it needs time. Better after 1-2 hours. Has upside potential once a few rough edges wear off and the oak integrates better.

Comments (0)

Clos de Nit Montsant Crianza 2012
Rated by WharfRat on December 10, 2016

Rating 33+

Took about an hour to open up, earthy nose and a touch smoky. Nice acidity and tannins, decent fruit but not forward. Outstanding value, although a review on cellartracker suggests some bottle variation.

Bodegas Ego Infinito Jumilla 2012
Rated by WharfRat on November 9, 2016

Rating 44

Very interesting, started out as vivid raspberry/cherry cola and broadened out after an hour or so with some earth and spice. Smooth tannins and quite a bit of acidity.

Comments (0)

Willow Bridge Estate Shiraz Dragonfly 2014
Rated by WharfRat on November 5, 2016

Rating 22

Fairly lame. Dusty tannins with no redeeming value, not much fruit and a bit harsh.

Comments (2)

Bodegas Consejo de la Alta Rioja Cata de Consejero 2011
Rated by WharfRat on October 29, 2016

Rating 44-

Fairly typical and a touch smoky. Overall a solid and balanced wine with good acidity and tannins. I think this will be better in a few years once the oak integrates more fully.

Rotie Cellars Southern Blend Walla Walla 2011
Rated by WharfRat on October 16, 2016

Rating 44

Nice Southern Rhone blend, takes quite a bit of time to come together. Initially a lot of bright red fruit, and then rounds out with spice and tannins. Will decant the next one.

Arnoux et Fils Cotes du Rhone Villages Seguret Eglise du Midi 2014
Rated by WharfRat on October 16, 2016

Rating 33

Started out with the candied red fruit of over-ripe Grenache, but rounded out with some air. Decent value for the price.

Comments (0)

Two Angels Petite Sirah High Valley 2009
Rated by WharfRat on October 5, 2016

Rating 22

Somewhat off-putting herbal/medicinal nose. Reasonable fruit and slightly rough tannins. Wouldn't have guessed it was PS if I didn't know.

Comments (0)

Shannon Ridge Buck Shack Red Lake County 2012
Rated by WharfRat on September 27, 2016

Rating 22

Thin and uninspiring. Much better $15 wine out there, the quoted original price of $40 would be a felony.

Comments (3)

Hugh Hamilton Shiraz The Rascal 2013
Rated by WharfRat on August 6, 2016

Rating 44

Impressive balance for the ABV. Copious fruit, some spice and a savory component. Tannins give good grip. Nice Aussie Shiraz for the price.

Comments (3)

Bersano Barbaresco Mantico 2012
Rated by WharfRat on July 31, 2016

Rating 33

A tale of two wines. Nose had off-putting aromas of menthol and almost gasoline-like petroleum. After quite a bit of air, palate was balanced with nice sour cherries dominating with good acidity. Tannins still need time. Might be very solid in a few years, but quite a few rough edges right now.

Comments (0)

Alexander Valley Vineyards Zinfandel Sin Zin 2013
Rated by WharfRat on July 27, 2016

Rating 33-

Expected a forward wine, and that's exactly what it is. Ripe cherries and a subtle earthy component on the nose, with flavors of ripe fruit, some pepper and a touch of vanilla, along with decent acidity. Respectable Zin for $12.

3 Rings Shiraz 2013
Rated by WharfRat on July 17, 2016

Rating 33+

Big and bold, with a touch of richness. Lots of fruit, a little spice and some cocoa. Hides the ABV fairly well!

Comments (1)

Pierre Amadieu Gigondas Domaine Grand Romane 2013
Rated by WharfRat on June 19, 2016

Rating 44

Very nice southern Rhone. This needs an hour or more of air, but good balance once it comes around. Initially, bright red fruit from the Grenache is dominant. Nice acidity, and tannins for balance and length. Darker fruit, spice and some leather appear later.

Comments (0)

Carini Captain Fantasy Red California NV
Rated by WharfRat on June 12, 2016

Rating 33+

Interesting, but too much oak was distracting. Initial petroleum aromas blew off, leaving decent fruit and spice. The older components were evident in a good way, but the wood overpowered.

Comments (0)

Dinastia Vivanco Rioja Reserva 2010
Rated by WharfRat on April 21, 2016

Rating 44-

Solid Rioja Reserva for the price. Nicely balanced, with initial plum and cedary nose giving way to some more plum, red fruit and leather with quite a bit of air. Oak is in check and has some nice acidity to pair well with food. Going back for more.

Comments (0)

Familia Zuccardi Cabernet Sauvignon Q 2012
Rated by WharfRat on April 19, 2016

Rating 33+

Lots of blue fruit, a touch of earthy smokiness, and just a hint of vanilla. With some air, balances out a bit. A 3 if you're looking for more finesse, 4 if you want an easy-to-drink new world cab. No complaints at $13.

Comments (0)

Cicchitti Malbec Mendoza 2010
Rated by WharfRat on April 16, 2016

Rating 33-

Just okay. Reasonably balanced and nothing offensive, just a bit simple.

Comments (0)

Domaine de Verquiere Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu 2013
Rated by WharfRat on April 11, 2016

Rating 22+

Light- to medium bodied and lacks concentration. Decent red fruit, but lackluster overall.

Comments (0)

Housley's Century Oak Winery Zinfandel Inez's Vineyard 2013
Rated by WharfRat on March 19, 2016

Rating 22

One dimensional and lacks balance. Fruity with nothing to balance the acidity.

Comments (0)

Koyle Syrah Gran Reserva Colchagua Valley 2012
Rated by WharfRat on March 14, 2016

Rating 33+

Nice value. Nose might be the best part, with slightly meaty and earthy syrah aromas. Palate is fruity with a touch of pepper and coffee/chocolate. Fruit is a little muddled, but good balance. Will be nice to have around for the grill and smoker.

Comments (0)

La Spinetta Chianti 2010
Rated by WharfRat on March 11, 2016

Rating 33+

This is a solid $14 Chianti. Cherries, earth/mushrooms, and perhaps a touch of leather. Nice acidity and good with food.

Comments (0)

Domaine Forca Real Cotes du Roussillon Villages 2013
Rated by WharfRat on January 18, 2016

Rating 22+

Nose and palate pretty much lack any fruit, and no indication of grenache or syrah present, even for old world. Nice acidity and minerality, but no need for more.

Comments (0)

Casey Flat Ranch CFR 2012
Rated by WharfRat on January 6, 2016

Rating 44

Can't add much, solid wine for the price with generous fruit without being overdone. I think it hides the rather high ABV well.

Comments (0)

Altocedro Malbec Reserva La Consulta 2012
Rated by WharfRat on January 2, 2016

Rating 33-

Spicy, jammy, but too over-the-top for me. Very big, copious fruit, a touch of heat and long finish.

Comments (0)

Dezzani Starde Barbaresco 2011
Rated by WharfRat on January 2, 2016

Rating 33

In my view this needs a few year before it realizes its full potential. The tannins are quite formidable and the wood needs to integrate better. Red fruit and some cedar/earthiness have trouble coming to the surface.

Twelftree Wines Grenache Mataro Gomersal Ebenezer 2011
Rated by WharfRat on December 19, 2015

Rating 44

Another one that lives up to the reviews once it gets some air. Generous fruit, spice, a touch meaty, and zippy acidity. Nice balance between the grenache and mourvedre. Delicious!

Comments (0)

Flegenheimer Bros Paisant Red McLaren Vale 2013
Rated by WharfRat on December 18, 2015

Rating 33+

I generally agree with parts of the Spectator and Vinous reviews. It's different in a good way if you like bright, red fruit. “Light in weight and color, with a crisp feel to the red berry and white pepper flavors, finishing with finesse.” 89 points Wine Spectator, May 31, 2015 “Silky and sweet, offering fresh raspberry and floral pastille flavors and a touch of white pepper. In an elegant, supple style, finishing with very good clarity and length.” *90 points Vinous Media, July 2014

Artiga Mas Delmera Reserva 2009
Rated by WharfRat on December 16, 2015

Rating 33+

Agree with J2K, would add nice acidity and balance. When first opened, mainly cherries almost like a ripe Pinot. I was hesitant since most Mourvedre-dominant blends or 100% wines were not my favorite. A hint of vanilla oak on the finish.

Comments (0)

Koyle Carmenere Gran Reserva 2012
Rated by WharfRat on December 14, 2015

Rating 33+

Quite a bit to like for the price. Dark fruit, chocolate/coffee, spice, minerality, and a decent finish. Fairly typical Carmenere which can be good or bad depending on your view. More forward and new world than the 2010 Royale that was around a few years back.

Comments (0)

Castelli del Grevepesa Chianti Classico Clemente VII Riserva 2010
Rated by WharfRat on November 23, 2015

Rating 22+

On the fuller-bodied side for a Chianti Classico, but I can't get much past the oak. Tried on day 2 and it hasn't subsided. May hang on to one for a few years, but otherwise disappointing except for the finish that shows what might be hidden.

Comments (1)

Concha y Toro Syrah Marques de Casa Concha 2011
Rated by WharfRat on November 20, 2015

Rating 33+

This is a very serviceable syrah for the price. Classic syrah nose with quite a bit of fruit, and also a little meaty. A little weak in the middle, but the finish is decent. Would be disappointing at the release price listed.

Comments (0)

Quinta de Lemos Dona Santana Dao 2009
Rated by WharfRat on November 15, 2015

Rating 44-

This has quite a bit to offer at $15. Hides the 14.5% quite well. A little earthy upon opening with a touch of coffee, has quite a bit of fruit with plum predominant, and nice acidity.

Comments (0)

Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano Orbaio Redi Argo et Non Briareo 2009
Rated by WharfRat on November 15, 2015

Rating 33+

Interesting wine. Solid, with Sangiovese prominent early and Merlot and Cab characteristics showing up. A blast of cherries/strawberries, with good acidity and a touch of sour fruit. Spice and leather, and a decent finish. Worth trying again.

Reserve des Oliviers Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2007
Rated by WharfRat on October 27, 2015

Rating 44+

Tried a bottle a few years ago and was not swayed either way. Drank a second bottle over 2 days this weekend and was quite impressed. Started with quite a bit of red fruit and migrated towards plums and darker fruit. A bit of leather and spice, and popping acidity. Either there is bottle variation, the last bottle suffered from the "dumb phase" theory, or maybe it was me. Wish I had more.

Shatter Grenache Cotes Catalanes 2012
Rated by WharfRat on August 30, 2015

Rating 33

Initially, a bit of French funk on the nose with fruit and a cotton candy or even burnt sugar aroma. Quite a bit of fruit in a modern style that also results in some heat. Just okay for me, a touch overdone.

Henry's Drive Syrah H Padthaway 2012
Rated by WharfRat on August 29, 2015

Rating 33

Decent and fairly typical Aussie shiraz. Not really compelling at 17.99.

Comments (0)

Shannon Ridge Zinfandel High Elevation Collection Lake County 2012
Rated by WharfRat on August 12, 2015

Rating 33-

Upfront fruit, zippy acidity but not enough tannins to give it decent grip. Falls off rather quickly. More restrained than a lot of zins, but not exciting. Decent for the price, not a bad choice for a cookout.

Comments (0)

Brady Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Rated by WharfRat on August 5, 2015

Rating 44

Nice for the money. Good acidity with some tannins for balance. Oak is restrained but there's some vanilla and a bit of smokiness on the nose. Mostly currants and dark fruit. I like this more than what I remember of the 2010.

Comments (0)

Henry's Drive Pillar Box Red 2010
Rated by WharfRat on July 13, 2015

Rating 44-

Shockingly good for $7.99. Quite a bit of fruit but not overdone, some spice, light oak and medium tannins. Very drinkable. Think this is far better than The Feast and actually better than some of the other, more expensive Pillar Box offerings I've tried.

Comments (0)

Domaine La Croix d'Aline Saint-Chinian 2013
Rated by WharfRat on May 28, 2015

Rating 44-

Tried some time ago and wasn't swayed either way. Tried again and thought it was very nice. Quite a bit of bright, red fruit, and acidity and minerality noted in the other reviews. The syrah takes a while to appear but adds a slight meatiness after a while. Excellent value in a more modern style.

Comments (1)

The Criminal Red Blend Dry Creek Valley 2012
Rated by WharfRat on May 14, 2015

Rating 33+

Another fruit-driven red that's easy to drink. Nice nose and decent finish. Quite a bit of cherries, a little meat and a touch of spice. Hides the high 15% ABV exceptionally well. Should be a decent choice for the grill.

Comments (0)

Clos LaChance Syrah Estate 2013
Rated by WharfRat on May 13, 2015

Rating 33+

Definitely on the fruit-forward side, with only a touch of heat. Quite a bit of fruit with a little leather maybe and vanilla that subsides a bit over time. Any more oak would be too much. Nice blueberry pie finish. Can't complain for 11.99.

Comments (0)

Nottingham Cellars 1846 Caberent Sauvignon 2012
Rated by WharfRat on April 24, 2015

Rating 44

Balanced cab with quite a bit of dark fruit and some oak influence that complements rather than overpowers. Really nice acidity and long finish. Hard to find a better Cali cab at this price.

Comments (0)

Vasco Urbano Wine Company Petite Sirah Brunswick 2013
Rated by WharfRat on April 10, 2015

Rating 33+

Went back and forth, very ripe style. Lots of blueberries and a touch of oak. Gains a bit of richness with air and a decent finish. A touch too ripe for my preferences although it's easy to drink and was actually better with food. More acidity than tannins.

Comments (0)

Cave de Rasteau Rasteau Dame Victoria 2012
Rated by WharfRat on March 28, 2015

Rating 33+

Bright red fruit and a bit of flowers. A touch of pepper after it opens with some air. Good balance, easy drinking. Good for the price.

TerraNoble Carmenere Gran Reserva 2011
Rated by WharfRat on March 2, 2015

Rating 33

PNP, almost immediately struck by the smell of ground coffee. Strong coffee aromas slightly subsided, but very evident on the palate as well as quite a bit of blue fruit. Gained some richness with air, but the coffee never seemed to go away. Borderline fruit bomb with a touch of espresso. I like coffee, but this one didn't sway me either way. If the coffee was milder, I'd go 4 given the price.

Comments (3)

Rivera II Falcone Castel del Monte Riserva 2008
Rated by WharfRat on February 23, 2015

Rating 44-

Rather fascinating, but different. Cedar/earthy to start and a bit herbal with limited fruit until the fairly long finish. Well made with acidity and tannins to evolve. Not for everyone, but recommend if you're looking for something off the beaten path. Going to grab a couple to lay down for a few years.

Carini Alicante Bouschet A2B 2013
Rated by WharfRat on February 21, 2015

Rating 22-

Bizarre, bottle and description mention it being dark/opaque. Wine is very light, almost pink and not at all opaque. Looks like watered-down pinot. Simple, fruity wine that is not impressive. Don't know if they mis-bottled or watered down, but nothing like Alicante Bouschet.

Comments (1)

Barrel 27 Syrah Old Habits Die Hard 2011
Rated by WharfRat on January 22, 2015

Rating 33

Impulse buy. Very ripe and fruit forward with a long finish. For me, the alcohol level and associated heat detract from this wine. The heat blew off a little with some air and it became richer. Recommended if you like that style.

Comments (0)

Sogrape Vinhos Callabriga Dao 2010
Rated by WharfRat on January 17, 2015

Rating 33+

Quite dry. Simple, but solid for $10. Decent fruit, could use a little more acidity. I've found the Sogrape wines to be excellent values and this didn't disappoint.

Comments (0)

Valdez Petite Sirah Landy Vineyard 2009
Rated by WharfRat on December 18, 2014

Rating 44+

Massive wine. The end of the cork looked black. Very concentrated, almost opaque. Nose has a lot of fruit, leather, spice and is a touch gamey. Palate has fruit predominant and a bit of spice. The tannins are present but not overwhelming, and there's a touch of heat. Long blueberry pie finish. Bring a toothbrush...

Comments (1)

Santa Rita Pehuen Carmenere 2008
Rated by WharfRat on December 13, 2014

Rating 44-

A bit of wood/smokiness and nice fruit on the nose, with similar palate throwing in some spice and chocolate and nice acidity. Really enjoyed, although the tannins are formidable and drying. Interesting to see how it is in a few years.

Opolo Vineyards Sangiovese 2012
Rated by WharfRat on December 13, 2014

Rating 22-

Bizarre nose of spicy coriander reminiscent of Belgian ale and similar palate with some heat and Dr. Pepper flavors. I'd rather have a Belgian ale.

Shannon Ridge Petite Sirah Caldwell Ranch 2010
Rated by WharfRat on November 24, 2014

Rating 44

Nice, big petite sirah. Tighter than a drum on opening, took an hour plus to wake up helped along by a steak. Day 2 it was blueberries, pepper, and a touch of smokiness. Quite dry with a long finish. Has the potential to get better with time. Hard to beat for the price.

Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico Riserva di Fizzano 2008

Lanciola Le Masse di Greve Chianti Classico 2009
Rated by WharfRat on October 21, 2014

Rating 44

Solid, agree with the above although I didn't find the tannins dusty nor did I find an astringent element. Perhaps it was the time in bottle. Very nice with food.

Comments (2)

Erasmo Maule Valley Chile 2009
Rated by WharfRat on October 19, 2014

Rating 44

Tried another bottle of this and the Maquis. Both are better on day 2. This is solid, but for me it had fairly prominent raw green vegetable on the nose and palate as Bigred noted. I didn't find overly dry, but has the acidity and tannins to go for a while. I think time will be its friend.

Comments (1)

Maquis Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Rated by WharfRat on October 5, 2014

Rating 44+

Subtle oak and smokiness and minerality more characteristic of Bordeaux. Cassis and dark fruit are subtle, but gain intensity with an hour or two of air. Can't remember having a better cab at $13.

Milbrandt Mosaic Vineyard Series 2010
Rated by WharfRat on September 12, 2014

Henry's Drive Shiraz Reserve 2008
Rated by WharfRat on September 12, 2014

Rating 44+

Very big, with dark blue fruit and nutmeg/baking spices on the nose. Fruity palate with a very long finish that is almost like chocolate-covered cherries. Benefited from air, and the initial hotness subsided. Need to go back for more.

Quinta do Vallado Douro 2011
Rated by WharfRat on September 10, 2014

Rating 33+

Solid Douro blend, especially for $12.99. Mix of red and blue fruit with tame tannins and nice acidity. Easy on the oak, surprisingly long finish and the 14% ABV only shows the slightest hint of heat. Simple, but a proverbial crowd pleaser.

Bodegas Palacio Glorioso Reserva 2008
Rated by WharfRat on August 1, 2014

Rating 44-

Leather, juicy red fruits and light wood with very good balance and nice acidity. Not overly complex, but a solidly made Tempranillo especially when the price is considered.

Comments (0)

Deep Sea Red 2009
Rated by WharfRat on July 4, 2014

Rating 33

Was probably overly optimistic after the 2008. Syrah comes through on the nose, then it's a straight-up fruit bomb. Fruity crowd pleaser, but less concentrated than the 2008.

Casa Lapostolle Syrah Cuvee Alexandre Las Kuras Vineyard 2009
Rated by WharfRat on July 3, 2014

Rating 44-

Note this is Cachapoal Valley, Las Kuras Vineyard (according to bottle, not receipt or instore sign which say Apalta Vineyard and the Wine Spectator review on the CS sign is for Apalta). Nice nose of dark blue fruits, meat and a little vanilla. Palate is similar with some licorice/pepper and a decent finish. A slightly bitter note, but otherwise a very good Syrah for 12.99.

Comments (2)

Bodegas Montecillo Rioja Reserva 2008
Rated by WharfRat on July 1, 2014

Rating 33-

Better on day 2 than 1 but still rather boring. Fruit is fairly muted. Overall, well balanced and probably would have been better with food. May improve a bit in a couple of years but not worth the effort.

Comments (0)

Brady Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Rated by WharfRat on June 16, 2014

Rating 33+

A little bit of smoke/licorice and red fruits on the nose, with similar flavors with some vanilla and a touch of heat that dissipates quickly. Decent acidity, tame tannins, and not too oaky. Decent finish. Not earth shattering, but decent for the price particularly with grill season in full swing.

Comments (0)

Paraiso Vineyards Pinot Noir Faite 2012
Rated by WharfRat on June 5, 2014

Rating 33+

Nice nose of cherry pie and RC cola. Mostly cherry on the palate and then the finish falls off very quickly. Like the acidity, but overall the finish is a bit too clipped.

Bonny Doon Vineyard Contra 2012
Rated by WharfRat on April 28, 2014

Rating 22

At times it seemed like a mediocre to less-than-mediocre Southern Rhone. Other times, it was mostly cheap and fake grapey. I would have been very disappointed at the original price. More of a bad experiment with no need to repeat at $9.99.

Comments (0)

Roth Estate Pinot Noir 2011
Rated by WharfRat on April 10, 2014

Rating 44-

Decent nose with cherries and cola, and a hint of spice on the palate with some sour cherries and raspberries. I really like the acidity, but the finish falls a little short. A bit like the lighter-bodied Londers that came through. I consider it very solid for the $17.99 price; $28 would have left me disappointed.

Maison Bouachon Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes Les Rabassieres 2011
Rated by WharfRat on February 15, 2014

Rating 33+

I would have guessed this to be a Spanish grenache. Fairly simple, very ripe raspberries with a little cherry and minerality. Seemed a bit hot at times even though the alcohol isn't too high.

Comments (0)

Mitcham Estate Shiraz Cabernet 2012
Rated by WharfRat on January 28, 2014

Rating 22-

This is just plain bad. Nose of grape Skittles, nothing on the palate other than a bit of heat, and no tannins or finish. Kind of epitomizes the fallacy of the CS program: many overpriced wines being dumped at prices they still don't deserve. The Steve P. description made me excited to possibly get a really good value on a new producer.
