I haven't been this excited about a Chairman's Selection in a while. Reminds me a lot of the Monleale Barbera from a few years back - old world all the way; stinky, earthy, funky. Some wood but well integrated. Somehow after all that, still fresh. Awesome.

light or medium/full bodied?

Medium-full. On the heavier side for a Barbera. 14.5% alcohol - I was skeptical of that, but it isn't hot at all.

Worth noting that I've now had 3 bottles of this and seen some variation. The 2nd bottle was a bit tight - took a while to open and didn't quite reach the peaks of the first. And the third was corked. But seeing the other positive comments here makes me feel like at least I am not crazy. So perhaps just a buyer beware scenario (as if an older CS didn't have that already).

I tried a bottle that was quite tight. No funk, just some mushrooms as noted by Bigred. A touch hot too. I bought another bottle, as it was still solid but not outstanding.

This is a beautiful wine. Good reco, Songoose. I have to say the winemaker’s notes are pretty spot on, “The bouquet is wide, intense and complex with notes of spice, red fruits and hints of dried fruit and toasting, derived from its refining in oak.” I’d add candied cherry and mushroom on the palate. Deep, rather full, and a pleasure to drink now or hold a few years. Buy up!

I'm on board with Big Goose. Mine had a little Band-aid aroma which made me think I was drinking Bdx. And no, I did not have a band-aid on my finger

My experience was more new world than old. Maybe I was influenced by the big heavy bottle but I got a lot of red fruit, medium body, good acidity, light tannins. Drink now.
