There was some interesting conversation on this one after the PLCB fall preview tasting. I thought it was terrible that day, but agreed with jlbird that I wanted to try it again after some decanting. If I didn't absolutely love Sagrantino, I probably wouldn't have given it much more thought, but I do so I had to try it again under better circumstances. This time, with a decant (about an hour), it was definitely better. Drinkable, certainly, with rich red fruits, but that undercurrent of burnt rubber was still there, consistently. At the tasting it was the only thing I noticed, whereas at home it was but a tertiary flavor, but it was still there. It's not often one finds even a mediocre SdM at this price point, so it remains tempting, but all told I'd rather save my money for a better one. (I am particularly interested in the 2006 Terre de Trinci, a luxury pick that's only $15, which would be a steal if it is anywhere near as good as the 2004, which is $29. Too good to be true?)
